She was the first to bring Tejano into mainstream music. The same way most people grieve a celebrity who has died far too early, her passing was premature and destroyed the progress of her career. As a result fans have been inspired over the years to dig in their heels even harder working to ensure her successes won't be lost in the dust. Selena is the Tejano singer who tragically shot to death by a gunshot accident sparked the Latino response that could be compared with the response to John Lennon's deaths. The singer was extremely popular within Latino communities across North America her music crossed borders of culture to impact the lives of children as well as old. Selena was an asexual, flamboyant performer on stage who was sometimes known as the Latina Madonna. In her off-stage life, Selena was also an excellent role model since she participated actively in antidrug and AIDS campaigning.
